Why do affirmations feel fake?
By the Medifestation team. Published . Updated .
Short answer
Affirmations feel fake when they are too generic, too extreme, or disconnected from what you currently believe. Rewording them to be specific, gradual, and personal usually makes them feel more natural.
Common reasons affirmations feel fake
- The wording is generic, such as "I am rich and happy."
- The claim is a big jump from where you are today.
- The sentence is not in your own words.
- There is no action or identity behind it.
How to fix it in four steps
- Write the statement you wish felt true.
- Soften it into a process: "I am learning to..." or "I am becoming..."
- Add one specific detail from your real life.
- Pair it with a small action you can take today.
Example
Instead of "I am wildly successful," try "I am becoming someone who takes clear, confident action on my work every day." The second version points to a behavior you can actually practice.
